2020 Global Top 10 and PCI 25: Top Paint and Coatings Companies

Annual Ranking of Top Paint and Coatings Companies

It’s time again for PCI’s annual ranking of the top 10 global and top 25 North American paint and coatings manufacturers. The ranking is based on 2019 coatings sales. Sales of other non-coating products are not included. 2019 was a mixed bag in terms of overall coatings sales. About half of the companies ranked in the Global Top 10 reported an increase in sales, with the other half seeing a decrease. In the Top 25 North American ranking of coatings manufacturers, companies reported either an increase in sales or sales similar to last year. You can read more about this in my Viewpoint. The Global Top 10

Following is a ranking of the top 10 global coatings manufacturers in 2019. Rankings are based on 2019 coatings sales. Sales of other, non-coating products are not included.

Coatings Sales (Net): $15.1 billion

 

2. The Sherwin-Williams Co.

Coatings Sales: Approx. $14.32 billion

 

3. AkzoNobel

Coatings Sales: $10.4 billion (€9.28 billion)

 

4. Nippon Paint Holdings Co.

Coatings Sales: Approx. $5.96 billion

 

5. RPM International Inc.

Coatings Sales: $5.6 billion for fiscal year ended May 31, 2019

 

6. Axalta Coating Systems

Coatings Sales: $4.5 billion

 

7. BASF Coatings

Coatings Sales: Approx. $4.2 billion (€3.746 billion)

 

8. Kansai Paint Co. Ltd.

Coatings Sales: Approx. $3.78 billion for fiscal year ended March 31, 2020

 

9. Asian Paints Ltd.

Coatings Sales: Approx. $2.45 billion for sales ended Dec. 31, 2019

Well deserved guys. Not always easy to agree with a top list, especially in the coating industry. This one is spot on. When can we expect a concrete top 25?

Thanks for your feedback Shane. Unfortunately our magazine wouldn't be the one to cover a concrete top 25. Perhaps the American Concrete Institute would have more info on that?
