With operations in more than 150 countries, AkzoNobel is a leader in the manufacture of paints and coatings. In 2019, revenue in each region of the world was the following: Mature Europe – 35%, Asia-Pacific – 30%, North America – 12%, South America – 9%, Emerging Europe – 10%, and other regions – 4%.

AkzoNobel has two business units: Decorative Paints and Performance Coatings. In 2019, sales in the decorative paints segment were, €3,703 billion compared to €3.699 billion in 2018. Sales in the performance coatings segment were €5.563 billion in 2019, compared to €5.587 billion in 2018. Brands for the Decorative Paints business unit include Coral, Dulux, Flexa, Hammerite, Sadolin and Sikkens. Main business operations within the Performance Coatings business unit include Automotive and Specialty Coatings, Marine and Protective Coatings, and Industrial and Powder Coatings. Brands include Awlgrip, International, Interpon and Sikkens.

Notes: In November 2019, AkzoNobel completed its acquisition of French aerospace coatings manufacturer Mapaero, strengthening its global position in aerospace coatings, notably in the structural and cabin coating sub-segments. In December 2019, the company announced plans to acquire Mauvilac Industries Limited, a leading coatings company in Mauritius. The acquisition, which strengthens AkzoNobel’s position in the Sub-Saharan African coatings market, was completed in 2020. In March of this year, the company purchased the remaining 25% stake in AkzoNobel Boya Sanayi ve Ticaret A.S., a leading powder coatings joint venture in Turkey.
