With more than 2,200 in attendance, the May 4-7 RadTech 2008 Conference in Chicago highlighted the energy and environmental benefits of using "electron beam" (EB) and "ultraviolet energy" (UV) industrial technologies. According to Petra L'Abbe of PPG and president of RadTech, the event saw a "terrific turnout, despite growing economic concerns."

RELIUS, part of BASF’s Coatings Division, is supplying a masking paint that shaves millimeters off Airbus parts. The paint hardens quickly and protects the aluminum substrates as the parts are dipped in sodium hydroxide solution. Thus, weight is reduced only on the surfaces that have not been coated with the special paint.

MagiZinc® from international steel producer Corus is a new hot-dip, zinc-based metallic coating with superior corrosion properties. In accelerated tests, the corrosion resistance of the new product was at least four times as effective for the same coating thickness as products galvanized with zinc alone.

The National Paint and Coatings Association (NPCA) and the Federation of Societies for Coatings Technology (FSCT) are moving forward with a merger of the two organizations following a majority vote by FSCT members endorsing the merger plan.
