SHANGHAI - Coating Innovative Technology Convention 2014, an industry event hosted by PCI’s Shanghai office, took place at the Shanghai Marriott Hotel Parkview on April 22-23. With the theme “Innovative Technologies in Coating Industry in 2014,” the event featured topics covering architectural and automotive coatings. More than 150 experts, industry observers and representatives across the value chain participated the event, which was co-chaired by industry experts Yang Xianghong, Wilson Wang and Rechard Cui.
Industry experts and scholars gave presentations covering the latest technologies, market updates and challenges, and process and innovation development trends. The focus was on innovation. In his presentation, “Status of Exterior Architectural Coatings and the Future Innovation,” Cheng Jinlong from Nippon explained new collaboration models, the development of exterior antifouling paints, exterior reflective insulation coating, and scientific and efficient coatings solutions for entire systems.
The event featured one main session and two sub-sessions. The main session began with Liu Dengliang from the China Coating Association, who gave a presentation titled “Begin Another Journey with Deepened Reform and Accelerated Transformation.” Professor Yang Xianghong then analyzed “The Prices of the Key Materials in China: Today and Tomorrow, and Their Performance Requirements.” Xia Xiaochun presented “Incorporating IT and Automation Solutions in Coatings Industry,” and Zhao Min updated delegates about the standards modification concerning architectural coatings.
In the sub-sessions, Zhong Ruifeng from Hempel spoke on “The Development of Architectural Coatings and Its Future Innovation.” Frank Zhang from Bayer discussed “New Solutions for Elastomeric Wall Coatings,” and Zhang Xintong from Fashion Color Association shared “The Application and Development of Color Design in the Architectural Market.” At the same time, Louie Liu from Axalta presented “The Future of Water-Based Coatings in the China Car Refinish Paints Market,” while Zhang Shifu from Geely Automobile and Rechard Cui presented “Paints and Coatings for Auto Topcoat Process system” and “Applying Spray Equipment with 2K Clear Paints,” respectively.
The convention also offered networking opportunities and brainstorming of case studies. In the afternoon of April 23, delegates were able to visit the BASF Shanghai factory, where Zhao Cheng-Le introduced the company’s ED Polymerization labs and Campus Analytical labs.
