NORTH ANDOVER, MA - A 51-year-old man was killed on October 9 in an explosion at a facility owned by Dow Chemical in North Andover, MA.
According to the North Andover Citizen, the explosion took place in a laboratory within the facility, where the man had been working alone. An alert went out shortly before noon to emergency responders, and the fire was quickly contained by the local fire department. Dow’s Public Affairs Manager Jeremy Cole said that the sprinkler system within the facility was triggered immediately after the explosion, helping to contain the fire until emergency responders arrived. Cole also stated that the area had been secured and was not a risk to the public.
The victim was airlifted to a Boston hospital for treatment of severe burns, where he died from his injuries.
The facility in North Andover manufactures electronic materials used in producing LED lights, according to the North Andover Citizen.
