PHOENIX – PreKote Surface Pretreatment by Pantheon Enterprises, Phoenix, has been qualified to SAE International’s Aerospace Material Specification 3095A for airline exterior paint. This specification allows maintainers to use PreKote on commercial airline fleets when used with qualified paint systems.
The PreKote qualification with Aerodur 2100 MgRP non-chrome primer and Aerodur 3002 topcoat is a completely non-chromate system that uses a cutting-edge magnesium-rich primer. Laura Roberts, CEO of Pantheon Enterprises, stated, “An entirely hexavalent chromium-free system will have a momentous impact on the industry by improving worker safety and decreasing hazardous waste. The extensive independent testing proves that PreKote provides superior corrosion protection and paint adhesion across aircraft platforms.”
PreKote is a non-chromium surface pretreatment product and is nontoxic and readily biodegradable. The product is a replacement for both chromate and non-chromate conversion coatings, sol-gels and wash primers.
PreKote has the additional benefit of replacing alkaline washes, acid etches, solvent wipes and other substances used on metal and composite substrates prior to painting.
The AMS 3095A Qualified Products Listing includes: PreKote with Aerodur LV 2114 primer and Aviox Clear Coat UVR topcoat; PreKote with Aerodur LV 2114 primer and Aerodur 3002 topcoat; and PreKote with Aerodur 2100 MgRP non-chrome primer and Aerodur 3002 topcoat.
The AMS 3095A Qualification is significant to the industry because it is a system specification that simplifies the process for mixed-fleet customers.
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has recognized PreKote for having environmentally preferable chemistry as a designation in the Design for the Environment (DfE) program. PreKote is the only aircraft pretreatment recognized by the EPA.
