SUCCASUNNA, NJ - Lloyd Kelley, 77, passed away on January 11, 2012, in Succasunna, NJ. Born in Knoxville, TN, he earned a B.S. in chemistry from the University of Tennessee. His first job out of college was with Rohm and Haas Co., where he worked for six years. He went on to work for Napco, Diamond Shamrock and Ultra Additives. Kelley was a very creative scientist, and he developed many state-of-the-art defoamers for the coatings, ink and adhesives market. He held four patents and numerous inventions. He retired from Ultra Additives in 1992.
Kelley was awarded third place in the 1964 Roon Foundation Award while at Rohm and Haas. He also authored or coauthored five other papers and studies. He was a longtime member of the Society for Paint Technology.
Kelley is survived by his wife, Phyllis, of 57 years and three children: Lorraine, Laura and his son Richard, who is a scientist with NASA.
