Software Release 6.4 is a major upgrade for all handheld Thermo Scientific NITON® XL3 Series analyzers. A simple software download with documentation provides features such as TestAll™ technology, live spectral display with peak ID, and Simplified Chinese language support, as well as a new Consumer Goods menu, and support for small spot focus in mining applications and alloy helium mode. The instrument allows users to differentiate between surface lead in paints and coatings and lead in the substrate. (The instrument must be calibrated for painted products.) The quantitative reading provided on surface paint is given in micrograms per square centimeter (µg/cm2), meeting the new standard set by U.S. House of Representatives in Congressional bill HR 4040 – the Consumer Product Safety Modernization Act.
