At Eurocoat in Genoa, Italy, November 6-8, 2007, Ciba will showcase its most recent innovations in the field of special effects at stand E29. On display will be Ciba® XYMARA™ stylings for wood, which provide designers with an extended range of color options for metallic and pearlescent effects. The traditional clear varnish or transparent color can now be embellished with shimmer, shading, and sparkle. The attainable effects range from a discreet pearlescent finish that enhances and emphasizes the grain to a variety of bold, sparkling color effects.
Further effects to be presented are the latest additions to the Ciba® METASHEEN® range of vacuum-metalized pigments, which deliver mirror-like brilliance in metallic coating. The 11 pigments in the product line offer coating manufacturers the opportunity to achieve new color dimensions with deep chrome effects.
Among the new products that extend the attainable color space are Ciba® UNISPERSE® Ultra aqueous pigment dispersions for architectural coatings, developed to meet the increasingly high durability standards required in today’s exterior paint market. This new range reportedly offers high color strength, excellent resistance to flocculation, high and standardized viscosity, low sedimentation, and outstanding storage stability, including high resistance to freezing, thawing, drying out and caking.
A further innovation that allows original new colors to be created is the latest-generation diketo-pyrrolo-pyrrole (DPP) pigment, Ciba® IRGAZIN® DPP CosmorayTM Orange. The pigment reportedly features a pure, bright orange shade and enables the creation of new shades and styles in the orange sector, especially in the reds, where it can be used to produce a yellow shift. According to Ciba, the pigment exhibits outstanding durability and very high saturation. Additionally, its high transparency makes it suitable for combination with effect or other high-performance pigments.
Other products that will be on display include Ciba® EFKA® 4585, a pigment dispersant for water-based applications made by controlled free radical polymerization (CFRP); and Ciba’s Novel Encapsulated Additives Technology (NEAT), which promotes stabilization in waterborne coatings.
