PPG Industries’ coil and extrusion coatings business has introduced Durastar and Truform HP coatings, a line of roll-applied coil coatings, as a lower-cost alternative to its high-end Duranar and Coraflon coatings.
Available in Europe and Australia for seven years, Durastar coatings reportedly feature an enhanced super polyester formulation with better flexibility, stain resistance, dirt pick up and recoatability than silicone-polyester products. The coatings reportedly deliver all the benefits and properties of silicone modified polyester (SMP) coatings without their typical application limitations. Because Durastar coatings also contain an ultraviolet (UV) radiation absorber, they also demonstrate greater resistance to fading and UV damage than standard SMP coatings. The coatings also are available in infrared (IR)-reflective formulations for energy-conscious installations.
Truform HP, an economical polyester coating, is designed for less demanding applications such as pole barns, garage doors, entry doors and truck trailers.
