New PATINA GREEN™ solution from Birchwood Casey produces an attractive Verdi green patina finish on copper, brass and bronze surfaces such as light fixtures, cabinet hardware and cast bronze sculpture pieces. The product also can provide an interesting and attractive appearance to architectural elements such as roof shingles, fascia, window and door frames, and all types of decorative hardware.
The product forms a mixture of several different copper compounds on the metal surface, similar to that formed through the natural aging and oxidation in outdoor weathering conditions. Depending on the technique, there are two different types of finishes achievable. For bright green or mint green finishes, the liquid can be applied directly onto a clean copper, brass or bronze surface using brush, dipping or spray. For slightly muted tones that are more opaque, the solution can be applied as a secondary treatment over the top of a brown or black colored base coat. This technique produces less reflection from the base metal and is sometimes more compatible with other surrounding materials, such as tone or wood.
