Conforma Clad Develops New Solution for Reactor Tubes (11/1/06)
Conforma Clad has developed infiltration brazed tungsten carbide protection for reactor tubes in the chemical processing industry. Conforma Clad® cladding is designed to protect reactor tubes (up to 23 ft.) installed in erosive areas, and it reportedly provides greater erosion resistance than nickel alloy weld overlay or spray coatings. The tube cladding also has a high coefficient of heat transfer and is able to withstand severe thermal shock. One major chemical company's reactor tubes were facing extreme abrasion and providing only a 12-18 month lifespan. The company decided to install Conforma Clad® prototypes. At the end of a six-month trial phase, the reactor tubes had only a 10% reduction in cladding thickness, indicating that the new tubing would last a minimum of 5 years.
