…Latin formy how time flies. A year has passed since I joined the staff ofFinishing Today(formerlyIndustrial Paint & Powder). It’s been one of my most rewarding career experiences. TheFinishing Todayteam has taken a nearly moribund publication and established it as the literary vanguard for the finishing industry. I still chuckle recalling a response when I told a good friend of mine that I was assuming the editing responsibilities of a major trade publication. He asked me why I hadn’t told my new boss that I flunked English class in high school. (I actually did a little better than that.)
When we made the transition fromIndustrial Paint & PowdertoFinishing Today, we made a number of promises. We were not merely portraying a new moniker but embodying a new attitude and look, as well as fresher and more comprehensive coverage, including a weekly enewsletter and a digital edition. In a word, we strived to give the new journal personality. Judging by the response of our readers, we have hit this mark. Our coverage has expanded beyond the limits of the paint and powder world to embrace virtually all industrial finishing technology. Our vital service to the coatings professional is presenting the latest innovation and business news across all frontiers of the finishing landscape.
We keep you up to speed with the most recent plating and metalizing technology. The use of plastic substrates has significantly increased, and so we have featured novel techniques to pretreat and coat these materials. Coating technology for wood has received substantial coverage, as have the newest ceramic processes. We’ve also covered advances made in electrocoating, powder coating and pollution abatement technology.
In this issue, we continue our quest to maintain the highest level of comprehensive coverage for the finishing industry. We’d like for you to understand the latest developments in mass finishing (“Wet vs. Dry Finishing”), how to ecologically handle your wastewater and pretreatment chemicals (“Capturing Wastewater”) and paint emissions (“Selecting the Right Pollution Control System” and “RTO’s: The Media Matters”). We also provide an up-to-the-minute explanation of your choices for metallic powder coatings (“Modern Metallics”) and automotive finishing (“An Integrated Coating Solution”).
In an effort to meet your evolving finishing needs, we’ve made significant changes to the magazine. We realize that the industry and technology demands to meet customer expectations and environmental requirements continue to change. We’re committed to keeping you abreast of everything you need to know to meet these challenges.
In industry as in life:Omnia mutantur nos et mutamur in illis- All things change, and we change with them.
