Steel producer Nucor Corp., Charlotte, N.C., has agreed to buy the assets of a Wisconsin finishing plant owned by Fort Howard Steel Inc. No terms were disclosed but the acquisition will make Nucor the largest producer of cold-finished bar products in the country, Nucor representatives said.

The plant in Oak Creek, Wis., produces alloy cold-finished bars used to make shafts for lawn mowers, appliances, automobiles and air conditioner compressors, with an annual capacity of 140,000 tons. The sale was scheduled to close in February.
