A
waterborne masonry paint based on Hydro PLIOLITE® technology was
chosen to renovate and durably protect the Carlton & Grand Canal Hotel in
Venice. Located along the Grand Canal, this elegant Italian
style hotel is an
ideal place to stay and a perfect starting point to visit Venice, to stroll
along its historical streets and bridges, or else to embark on a cruise in the
lagoon among the islands or Murano, Burano or Torcello.
Due to its location, the hotel is constantly
affected by high humidity and atmospheric changes, with cool winters, hot and
sunny summers and rainy springs and autumns. So as time passed by, the walls
started to show several defects despite many partial restorations.
After inspection, the specifiers recommended a paint that was resistant
to salt fog, sufficiently waterproof to prevent humidity and rainwater from
penetrating into the substrate, and yet microporous to permit the evaporation
of moisture present in walls, while at the same time retaining its decorative
appearance.
For a project of such a technical complexity and decorative effect they
selected an anti-carbonation water-based paint formulated with Hydro PLIOLITE,
E.B.S. technology (Emulsified Binding System) developed by the R&D
department of ELIOKEM (now part of OMNOVA Solutions).
This unique technology confers to the paint’s key properties such as: deep
penetration into the substrate and therefore an outstanding adhesion of the
coating; a secure film formation; and excellent water and carbon diffusion
resistance.
Produced by CAP Arreghini (Italy) Unikocap
Cemento provides good release of entrapped water and a very good barrier
against carbon dioxide, water and oxygen. Easy to use and odourless, Unikocap Cemento paint based on Hydro
PLIOLITE can be applied directly on the masonry, making an impermeable film,
while exhibiting excellent weatherability.
This high-quality paint is recommended as the ideal solution for concrete
surfaces in environments such as Venice, where a long-term barrier is
required.
