Roger Cayton of Nanophase Technologies presented a paper on “Scratch-Resistant UV-Cured Coatings Containing Nano-Aluminum Oxide Additives” during the Nanotechnology Session of Wednesday’s Congress. Using a market-driven approach, the presentation focused on a line of nanometric aluminum oxide-based additives that provide dramatically improved scratch resistance for UV-cured coatings in electronics, graphic arts and wood furniture applications. These additives are pre-dispersed in a variety of commercially available acrylate monomers for use in solvent-free coatings and are engineered to ensure compatibility with a wide range of coatings formulations.
