BROADVIEW, IL - B.L. Downey, an e-coating and powder coating provider based in Broadview, IL, recently replaced all overhead lighting in its 325,000-square-foot facility, substantially reducing its annual energy consumption.

B.L. Downey participated in a ComEd incentive program called Smart Ideas for your Business. "We're very pleased to see the significant energy savings resulting from Smart Ideas for ComEd's business customers," said Val Jensen, Vice President, Marketing and Environmental Programs, ComEd. "Investments made today toward energy efficient operations can have a positive impact on future electricity bills and the environment."

"Lighting is one of the top three energy drains and can represent 10 percent to 50 percent of a company's electrical costs. With its retrofit, we estimate that B.L. Downey will reduce its usage of electrical energy by over 500,000 kilowatt hours per year," said Joseph Ball, Senior Energy Consultant for KEMA, which implemented the incentive program.
