WASHINGTON - Compromise talks between the primary European Union institutions on the proposed Registration, Authorization and Evaluation of Chemicals (REACH) legislation ended with a European Parliament vote of approval on Dec. 13. This culminates nearly five years of advocacy work on the part of The European Council of the Paint, Printing Ink and Artists’ Colours Industry (CEPE) organization and, over the past four years, additional support from other paint and printing ink associations under the banner of the International Paint and Printing Ink Council.
CEPE and its national association affiliates throughout Europe made an outstanding effort in helping officials understand and address adverse industry impacts. What remains now is continuing work with the government agencies that will oversee the implementation of REACH, and expanded member services to help with compliance.
