PHILADELPHIA -- Rohm and Haas Co. has named Albert B. Brown, chief scientist for the company's Performance Polymers business, a Corporate Research Fellow in recognition of his technical leadership and contributions to polymer science during his more than 25-year career with the company.

The honor is only the third awarded by Rohm and Haas in the company's 94-year history.

Rohm and Haas said Brown is regarded as an expert in emulsion polymerization, and has invented or played a role in the development of a number of products used in paints and specialty coatings. He joined the company in 1964 as a chemist in the Paper, Textile and Nonwovens business, and in 1969 moved to the coatings area to focus on new metal-protection Nonwovens. Brown has held a series of technical and management positions in coatings-related research, and in 1999 was appointed chief scientist for the Performance Polymers business.
