POWDER COATING 2000 drew nearly 6,000 visitors to Indianapolis.

INDIANAPOLIS — POWDER COATING 2000, the biennial conference and trade show for the powder-coating industry, drew nearly 6,000 visitors to Indianapolis, the Powder Coating Institute reported. The show and conference featured seminars, technical presentations, workshops and plant tours of facilities where powder coatings are applied.

The Powder Coating Institute estimated that attendance was comparable to or slightly higher than POWDER COATING ’98. The show’s 250-plus exhibits topped 1998’s total of 229.

The conference’s technical program focused primarily on coating-application issues, including the developing technology of powder coating of wood substrates. In one presentation on advances in coatings materials, Paul Pettit of PPG Industries Inc. provided a review of new acrylic powders that offer improved performance properties. Pettit discussed “New Horizons for Acrylic Powder Coatings.”

POWDER COATING 2002 is scheduled for Sept. 24–26, 2002, at the Indiana Convention Center in Indianapolis, and the Powder Coating Institute also is a participant in COATING 2001, scheduled for Oct. 15–17, 2001, in Orlando. COATING 2001, sponsored by 11 industry trade associations including the National Paint & Coatings Association (NPCA), spans a range of finishing technologies.
