PPG Industries and a consortium of packaging manufacturers have been recognized for their participation in a program to test new bottle compositions with plastic recyclers.

PPG Industries Inc., Pittsburgh, and a consortium of packaging manufacturers have been recognized for their participation in a program to test new bottle compositions with plastic recyclers. PPG said the Champions for Change honor from the Association of Postconsumer Plastic Recyclers followed testing and commercial-scale trials by PPG and the packaging consortium that showed polyethylene terephthalate treated with PPG’s Bairocade gas-barrier coatings can be recycled into fiber, strapping, sheet and even single-layer PET food and beverage containers. The coatings are applied to the exterior of PET bottles.
