NEWBURYPORT, MA — Samuel Cabot Inc. has named John E. Schutz president of the 123-year-old manufacturer of wood-care products. Schutz will succeed Samuel Cabot III, who will become chairman after 22 years as president. Cabot will focus on long-term goals and international initiatives.
Cabot is the fourth Cabot family member, all with the name Samuel Cabot, to head the company since its founding. “This is really a milestone in our over a century of history in coatings,” Cabot said. “It marks a new chapter in our business.” He described Schutz as “a dynamic individual and a big contributor to our success these past years.”
Schutz joined Cabot in 1993 as vice president, Sales, and was most recently the company’s executive vice president. He began his career with Uniroyal Inc., where he helped expand the Keds line of shoes from a $60-million brand in 1980 to $400 million within a 10-year period.
