NEW YORK - Minerals Technologies Inc.'s wholly owned subsidiary, Barretts Minerals Inc. (BMI), has acquired the business and assets of Polar Minerals Inc., a privately owned producer of industrial minerals, for $22.5 million. Polar Minerals' operations will be incorporated into Minerals Technologies' Specialty Minerals segment, Minerals Technologies said.

Polar Minerals, based in Lawrenceville, GA, is a supplier of mineral products used in the coatings, adhesives, sealants, rubber, and cosmetics markets. The company's product line includes talc, ground calcium carbonate, barytes, and mica. Minerals Technologies said the acquisition complements its Processed Minerals product line and provides a market presence in the Midwestern United States.

Minerals Technologies Inc. is a manufacturer of mineral-based and synthetic mineral products for various industrial markets.
