Celanese Chemicals, a unit of Celanese AG, announced plans to shut down a vinyl acetate monomer (VAM) production plant in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, by the first quarter of 2002 as part of a global restructuring program to cut costs and increase efficiency. The company said it had decided to pursue the expansion of VAM production capacity at a site in Mexico rather than at the Edmonton location.
