MEDINA, OH — The StonCor Group, part of RPM Inc., announced a program to "redefine" the product lines of the Carboline and Plasite units in a move StonCor said would result in more focused marketing, higher levels of service and improved performance for the two businesses.

Carboline and Plasite are manufacturers of coatings and linings, and became part of StonCor in a realignment in 1999. Dave Reif, StonCor Group president, said confusion had occurred in the market due to the similar product offerings of the two businesses.

StonCor said Carboline will narrow its focus and specialize in corrosion-resistant exterior coatings, architectural and OEM finishes, fire-protection products, and municipal above-ground water-tank applications. Plasite will focus on all primary and secondary containment applications, including chemical- and abrasion-resistant tank linings and engineered systems for secondary containment areas. StonCor said Carboline and Plasite will maintain their own technical-service departments and sales forces, and research and development functions also will remain separate, although polymer technologies will be shared.
