Kemira Oy, Helsinki, announced plans to boost the production capacity of its titanium dioxide (TiO2) production facility in Pori, Finland, to 130,000 metric tons (mt) per year, a 10,000-mt increase. The new capacity will come online in 2003, the company said. Kemira said its long-term goal for the plant is production capacity of 150,000, and said its strategy for the TiO2 business is specialization and internal growth. The company last year sold its U.S. TiO2 operations to Kerr-McGee Chemical LLC.
