BASF Coatings AG and PPG Industries Inc. were recognized for innovative coatings developments, as both companies received PACE Awards sponsored byAutomotive Newsmagazine and Cap Gemini Ernst & Young.

BASF Coatings was cited for the company’s development of the “Integrated Process” automotive-finishing system, which the company said offers energy savings and reduced air-pollutant emissions. PPG, which also won a PACE award in 2000, received a prize this year for its development of the Audioguard sound- and vibration-deadening coating. Last year, PPG captured the award for the development of the Enviracryl powder clearcoat for automotive bodies.

In this year’s competition, PPG also was an award finalist for its Bonazinc weldable primer and Enviro-Prime 2000 lead-free electrodeposition primer. The company’s two-bath “Power-Prime” electrocoat process was a finalist for the award in 2000.
