INDIANAPOLIS — Lilly Industries Inc. has announced plans to close three satellite manufacturing facilities, located in Dothan, AL; Paulsboro, NJ; and Woodbridge, CT, in moves the company described as a continuation of ongoing programs to increase operating efficiencies and capacity utilization.
Robert A. Taylor, Lilly president and chief operating officer, said the actions will result in the elimination of approximately 75 positions, with manufacturing functions at the plants to be relocated to other Lilly facilities over the next six to 12 months. The shutdowns are expected to be completed by mid-2000.
Taylor said the company has sought to increase revenue worldwide, but added that “we are also aggressively addressing cost-structure issues. Plant closures and other cost-reduction programs will improve operating margins next year and beyond.”
