EM Industries Inc., Hawthorne, NY, announced a change in the business's name to EMD Chemicals Inc., effective Jan. 1. The action reflects a "global branding strategy" being implemented by the business's parent company, Merck KGA of Germany, to "unify and strengthen its market presence worldwide." As part of the strategy, Merck KGA is uniting all its North America operations under the EMD brand. EMD Chemicals, a supplier of special-effect pigments, also announced a change in the name of its Afflair mica pigment line to Iriodin Effect Pigments, which gives the product line a uniform brand name worldwide.
