KINGSPORT, Tenn. - Eastman Chemical Co. delivered two technical papers at the 32nd Annual International Waterborne, High-Solids and Powder Coatings Symposium in New Orleans. The first paper presented the results of an alternative method for testing the VOCs of additives in formulated paints. The second, which won the Symposium's Outstanding Paper Award in New Coatings Technology, reported on the benefits of Eastman CHDA, a resin intermediate, in stabilized polyurethane coatings.

Kevin McCreight, principal research chemist at Eastman, presented the paper, An Evaluation of the VOC Content of Coalescing Aids, by Dr. McCreight and Weimin Liang. McCreight discussed work to quantify the VOC levels of coalescing aids in formulated paints.

Stacey J. Marsh, technical service chemist at Eastman, presented his paper, Performance of 1,4-Cyclohexanedicarboxylic Acid (1,4-CHDA) in Polyester Polyols for Two-Component Polyurethane Coatings Used in Weathering Applications. The paper evaluated the performance of high-solids, two-component, pigmented polyurethane coatings containing 1,4-CHDA. Abstracts are available at www.eastman.com/Waterborne.
