DETROIT — A preview of issues facing manufacturers in the year 2000 and beyond highlighted a varied technical program at the Detroit Society for Coatings Technology’s recent annual FOCUS Conference.

Frank Granbery, Year-2000 Project director for Bayer Corp., delivered the conference’s keynote address, an analysis of issues related to the Y2K problem. He also offered other observations on challenges expected to emerge in the new century.

The conference program, carrying the theme “Turning the Page to the New Millennium,” featured a two-track technical program, in addition to a tutorial short course on painting and processing of plastics. The program surveyed a range of technical topics, including developments in coatings formulation, processing, testing and application.

Rosemary Brady, Akzo Nobel Coatings Inc., served as conference chairwoman.
