The Association for Materials Protection and Performance (AMPP) announced that CEO Alan Thomas and Chief of Advocacy Helena Seelinger met with staff from the White House National Security Council to discuss the role of workforce development and advanced materials protection in revitalizing the U.S. shipbuilding industry.
The meeting highlighted how AMPP’s global training programs and technical standards can help address labor shortages, enhance vessel durability, and reduce lifecycle costs through early integration of surface preparation and coatings in ship design and construction.
“By prioritizing materials protection in the design and construction phases, we can build more resilient vessels, extend asset life from the start, and reduce long-term costs,” said Thomas.
AMPP emphasized its ongoing collaboration with agencies such as the Department of Defense, Department of Labor, Department of Energy, and the NSC, supporting a whole-of-government approach to industrial growth and maritime resilience. In 2024, AMPP issued more than 65,000 credentials to maritime sector workers and trained over 12,000 individuals across 38 countries.
