AkzoNobel and IPG Photonics announced a partnership focused on applying laser technology to cure powder coatings. The agreement will exclusively serve customers in the EMEA region.
The collaboration involves calibrating AkzoNobel’s Interpon powder coating formulations for use with IPG’s modular laser curing systems. According to the companies, the process reduces curing times, increases energy efficiency, and minimizes space requirements.
Laser curing selectively heats the applied coating, enabling rapid processing without warming the surrounding enclosure or substrate. The technology supports temperature-sensitive materials and shortens production line cool-down times.
“This is a hugely exciting partnership,” said Jorrit van Rijn, global marketing director of AkzoNobel’s powder coatings business. “It offers game-changing benefits in terms of process speed, efficiency, and energy savings.”
