Chemcoaters Installs Electrostatic Oiler to Expand Metal Processing Capabilities

Chemcoaters commissioned a new electrostatic oiler to enhance its metal cleaning and oiling capabilities for steel mills, service centers and OEMs. The new equipment allows the company to apply more precise, lower-weight oil coatings on steel and aluminum strip.
Unlike traditional oilers, the electrostatic unit uses high-voltage current to create fine oil particles for a more even, controllable coating. The upgrade, custom-built by GFG Peabody, supports requests for lighter coatings—down to 30 mg/ft², with additional internal trials underway to test even lower limits.
The Gary, Indiana-based facility is one of the largest-capacity steel coil processing locations in the country, offering metal cleaning, corrosion-inhibiting coatings, passivation, reclamation and more.
