New Epoxy PFP Coating Enhances Fire Safety and Sustainability

Hempel introduced Hempafire Extreme 550, a next-generation epoxy passive fire protection (PFP) coating designed for cellulosic fires. Certified for up to four hours of fire resistance, it ensures structural steel protection while reducing environmental impact and application time.
The solvent-free formulation is compatible with waterborne primers and topcoats, delivering a complete PFP and anticorrosive system with ultra-low VOC emissions and up to 40% lower CO₂ output. Designed for durability, the coating provides over 25 years of protection, even in C5 environments under ISO 12944 standards.
With lower dry film thickness (DFT) requirements, Hempafire Extreme 550 reduces material usage and speeds up application. It is ready for handling within 24 hours at 20°C, supporting faster project turnaround and minimizing downtime. Its high-build capacity ensures a smooth application, reducing the number of required coats while maintaining durability and fire resistance.
Hempafire Extreme 550 is suitable for a range of steel sections, allowing lighter steel structures without compromising safety. It also provides an architectural-grade finish with compatibility across multiple topcoat options.
