PP Control & Automation (PP C&A) announced an extended manufacturing partnership with P2i, a specialist in nanocoating technology, to support the production of its new 18L machine. The system delivers ultra-thin, durable liquid protection for mobile phones, medical implants and automotive electronics.
The 18L model condenses P2i’s coating capabilities into a smaller, standalone unit, reducing its footprint by more than half compared to previous versions. PP C&A played a key role in the machine’s development, completing the first build within six months and identifying cost efficiencies throughout the process.
“PP Control & Automation has been our manufacturing partner for more than half of our company’s life,” said Phil Millard, head of engineering at P2i. “Getting them involved in our next-generation 18L model from the start was the natural decision. Their expertise in new product introduction helped us streamline production and improve efficiencies.”
The updated manufacturing approach has reduced build time by 20 hours, allowing PP C&A to ramp up production in a dedicated manufacturing cell. The company has also taken on additional supply chain responsibilities, including factory acceptance testing before units are delivered to P2i’s Oxford facility.
PP C&A CEO Tony Hague highlighted the strength of the collaboration: “Our partnership with P2i is a fantastic example of strategic outsourcing. To develop a high-tech machine in just six months is an achievement, but I believe we’ll be even quicker next time.”
P2i expects growing demand for the 18L machine and is already working with PP C&A on its next generation of coating technology.
