Nouryon introduced its new Expancel® BIO microspheres at the 2024 Foam Expo Europe. The company’s latest product concept was a partially biobased lightweight filler and blowing agent.

The Expancel® BIO microspheres were designed for use in a variety of applications, including coatings, adhesives, construction materials, automotive components, shoe soles and porous ceramics. The microspheres were also partially biobased, making them a more sustainable option for companies aiming to reduce their environmental impact.

Nouryon’s decision to develop a partially biobased product responded to the growing demand for more sustainable solutions. The company also sought to capitalize on the increasing consumer preference for eco-friendly products.

“Sustainability continues to be a critical priority for our customers, driven by consumer preferences, environmental regulations and innovation in green technologies. We see significant growth opportunities for this product concept and invite our customers and partners to join us in refining and enhancing Expancel® BIO microspheres to best meet the demands of tomorrow’s market,” said Sylvia Winkel-Pettersson, Vice President Engineered Polymers at Nouryon.

The Expancel® BIO microspheres were part of Nouryon’s broader commitment to sustainability. The company actively worked to reduce its carbon footprint and increase the use of renewable materials in its products.
