BASF has inaugurated its Catalyst Development and Solids Processing Center at its Ludwigshafen site, marking a significant investment in its research and development footprint. This state-of-the-art facility will serve as a hub for pilot-scale synthesis of chemical catalysts and the development of solids processing technologies, enabling faster access to innovative technologies for BASF's global customers.
“With cutting-edge process equipment, our new Catalyst Development and Solids Processing Center enables BASF to conduct more focused and rapid development of innovative catalyst and process technologies, which we and our customers urgently need for the green transformation,” said Dr. Helmut Winterling, President Group Research at BASF.
Catalysts are vital to industrial chemistry, impacting more than 80% of chemical products during their production by reducing energy demand and minimizing by-products. The new facility strengthens BASF’s capabilities in transitioning lab-developed catalysts to production scale, supporting both its customers and in-house manufacturing.
Built within three years to replace an older structure, the facility features advanced safety measures and R&D technologies, representing a high double-digit million-euro investment.
