The National Center for Manufacturing Sciences (NCMS) has released a white paper detailing how AI-driven initiatives improve supply chain resilience. The paper presents two case studies featuring straightforward, cost-effective solutions that small and medium-sized manufacturers (SMMs) can adapt to prevent supply chain disruptions.
“Resilient supply chains are necessary for a strong American manufacturing sector and many other sectors that are essential to our prosperity and national security,” said NCMS President and CEO Lisa Strama. “NCMS is strongly committed to advancing AI in manufacturing.”
The white paper incorporates the latest research on the secure and effective implementation of AI across the manufacturing sector. It highlights recent federal AI initiatives, such as advancements from the Department of Commerce’s Supply Chain Center and AI standards developed by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST).
The document addresses three key barriers to AI adoption in manufacturing:
- Preserving data privacy.
- Establishing secure methods to selectively share data among organizations.
- Demonstrating how manufacturing operational and product data can fuel AI models to provide scalable solutions to common industry challenges.
“Currently, multiple federal organizations are emphasizing the need to expand public-private partnerships to accelerate AI for supply chain resilience,” Strama added. “NCMS strongly supports these partnerships to promote the secure use of AI across the manufacturing sector.”
