AkzoNobel’s Marine and Protective Coatings business has entered into a Memorandum of Cooperation with Sinopec to aid the Chinese energy and chemical company’s global expansion. The partnership will also see the two companies work together to promote the ongoing transition to green energy.

The collaboration will see AkzoNobel supply its International® high-performance coatings products to Sinopec and its affiliates for use in overseas construction projects. This includes the provision of anti-corrosive coatings for steel structures, as well as protective coatings designed to withstand high temperatures. AkzoNobel will also supply chemical-resistant coatings for storage tanks and high-performance fireproof coatings. In particular, the company’s coatings will be used for projects that require high levels of quality, such as the construction of refining facilities, natural gas processing plants and chemical production sites.

AkzoNobel and Sinopec first began working together in the early 2000s, and have since collaborated on a number of major projects. This includes the Sinopec Zhenhai Refining & Chemical Company’s million ton ethylene project, as well as the Petronas RAPID project in Malaysia.

Sinopec is one of China’s largest integrated energy and chemical companies. The company is currently in the process of transforming and upgrading its traditional businesses, with a focus on enhancing its green energy supply capabilities. Sinopec is also working to advance its energy conservation and emissions reduction efforts.

The signing of the Memorandum of Cooperation took place during the 7th China International Import Expo (CIIE) in Shanghai.
