Nippon Paint Marine announced the successful application of AQUATERRAS, its biocide-free, low-VOC SPC coating, to Wan Hai Lines’ container vessel M/V Wan Hai 613 at Zhou Shan Chang Hong Shipyard, China.

The AQUATERRAS coating provides sustainable hull protection by preventing fouling, delivering fuel savings of up to 14.7% over 60 months and reducing carbon emissions. Released in 2021, AQUATERRAS is the first fouling prevention technology with a biocide-free formulation, eliminating biocide elution to protect marine life while enhancing fuel efficiency and carbon reduction.

Kazuaki Masuda, corporate officer and director of the technology division at Nippon Paint Marine, said: “This first application of AQUATERRAS in China is a significant milestone, reinforcing our commitment to protecting the marine environment while maintaining antifouling performance standards.”

Since 2016, Wan Hai Lines has partnered with Nippon Paint Marine for high-performance coatings, including AQUATERRAS and FASTAR, which have contributed to fuel efficiency across its fleet.
