A municipal water tank in Grand Prairie, Texas, has been named the winner of the 2024 Tank of the Year competition by Tnemec Company, Inc., a leading provider of high-performance coatings. Selected by a panel of water tank enthusiasts, the tank was recognized for its artistic value, significance to the community, and the challenges overcome during the project. As the contest winner, it will be featured in Tnemec's annual Tank of the Year calendar in the most prominent position alongside other top finalists.

The winning tank showcases Tnemec’s UV-resistant, durable fluoropolymer finish, Series 700 HydroFlon, which ensures long-term color and gloss protection for its intricate design.

"Once again, we at Tnemec were thrilled by the number of entries in this year’s Tank of the Year contest,” said Brian Cheshire, Director of Sales for the Water Tank Market. “The 2024 entrants demonstrated the creativity and ingenuity of our customers. Towns and cities across the United States and Canada are using these structures not only for water infrastructure but also as community showcases."

The award-winning tank in Grand Prairie, Texas, features a striking three-part mural by renowned artist Eric Henn. The project was spearheaded by Landmark Structures, in collaboration with Freese and Nichols, Gulf States Protective Coatings, and the City of Grand Prairie. The mural highlights local attractions, including horse racing at Lone Star Park, Joe Pool Lake, and the amusement center Epic Central, making the tank a functional and artistic landmark off Highway 161.

Other top 12 finalists for 2024 include water tanks in Annandale, Minnesota; Birchwood, Wisconsin; Cawker City, Kansas; Chehalis Village, Washington; Clearwater, Florida; Emporia, Kansas; Hillsboro, Texas; Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan; Sheldon, Iowa; Topsail Beach, North Carolina; and College Station, Texas.

More than 320 tanks were nominated, with over 17,000 online “People’s Choice” votes cast from across the U.S. and Canada. The People’s Choice award went to College Station, Texas, for a design celebrating the local university and community.

“Since 2006, Tnemec has recognized municipalities for their aesthetic, creative, and innovative applications of our high-performance coatings on water storage tanks,” Cheshire added. “This year’s finalists represent various water tank types, each impressive in its own right.”

The Tank of the Year will be showcased as the January feature in Tnemec’s 2025 water tank calendar, with other finalists and nominees represented throughout the year.
