PPG announced the completion of a COLORFUL COMMUNITIES® project that revitalized and transformed the Escola Municipal Professor Luiz Carlos Maiola Covre school in Jacareí, Brazil. The project brought together 150 volunteers from PPG, the company’s customer Ardagh Metal Packaging (AMP) and local school and community members, with the support of the City of Jacareí and the Municipal Department of Education.
Together, the volunteers brightened and colored classrooms, a lunchroom and the schoolyard using more than 320 gallons (1,200 liters) of RENNER® paints by PPG. Company experts conducted color studies to ensure the space provided joyful learning areas for the children. The volunteers also worked on the school’s vegetable garden.
“It is very gratifying to know that students will return to a renovated and colorful school, with a welcoming atmosphere that stimulates learning and sociability,” said Elisângela Matos, Sustainability Manager at Ardagh. “This project reaffirms our commitment to the development and education of children and teenagers in the region, aligning with Ardagh’s global policy of social sustainability, which focuses on the sustainable development of the communities where we operate.”
The Professor Luiz Carlos Maiola Covre school currently has 569 students enrolled in kindergarten and elementary education. The facility had previously been a center for adult education with a drab color scheme and had not been renovated for many years. A key focus of the renovation project was to add playful elements and bright colors where students would feel supported and excited to learn.
“It’s always a pleasure when we collaborate with our customers to promote community-benefit projects,” said Malesia Dunn, Executive Director, PPG Foundation and corporate global social responsibility. “Colorful Communities is an example of how we enhance a positive impact on school environments while protecting and beautifying learning spaces with the help of PPG products and volunteers.”
