2023 Coatings Sales: Approx. $282 million (PCI estimate)

In January of 2024, Kelly-Moore Paints announced that the company would immediately cease operations and commence an orderly, out-of-court wind-down of substantially all its business. Approximate 2023 company sales were $282 million.

Kelly-Moore decided to shut down after spending a total of $600 million on asbestos settlements, while still dealing with cases being filed. During the wind-down process, the company continued to endeavor to fulfill previously placed customer orders to the extent possible from existing inventory in Kelly-Moore’s Union City, California, distribution facility. All the company’s other facilities were immediately closed, including Kelly-Moore’s manufacturing facility in Hurst, Texas, and its retail stores, all of which were leased.

Founded in San Carlos, California, in 1946 by William Kelly and William Moore, Kelly-Moore Paint Company has been a staple in the paint industry. With a state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in Texas and more than 280 retail outlets, Kelly-Moore’s 1,200+ employees were located across California, Nevada, Oklahoma, and Texas.
