Technical Program

The heart of CoatingsFest is the technical program, which runs from Thursday, September 12 through Friday, September 13. The technical program features between 30–40 talks over 2 tracks covering a wide range of formulation and manufacturing topics.

Short Course

The course will initially review the types of polymers commonly used in waterborne architectural paints and coatings – acrylics, vinyl acetates, styrene acrylics, ethylene vinyl acetates, and versatates. This will be followed by an understanding of the emulsion polymerization process and subsequently dive into film formation and the many factors that influence the glass transition and minimum film formation temperatures. The course will then focus on 1K and 2K waterborne technologies used in high-performance architectural and industrial coatings. This will build on the principles established in the first part of the course and explain structure-property relationships needed for specific coatings applications. Technologies covered will include the fundamentals of polyurethane dispersions (PUDs), acrylic latexes, hybrid-acrylic/PUDs and alkyd/PUDs, and 2-component waterborne polyurethanes.

Party and Banquet

The traditional Banquet completes the calendar of social events on Thursday, September 12.
