The ChemQuest Group, a global consulting firm focused on tailored business strategy and optimization, technology acceleration, market intelligence, and M&A advisory services for the specialty materials industry, has appointed Carla McBain, Ph.D., a director.
McBain’s wealth of experience includes the development of numerous specialty materials, including polymers for various applications, latex copolymers, and prototype paint formulations. She is also well-versed in emulsion and colloid methodology, computer modeling and statistical experimental design, and global regulatory compliance requirements. Drawing on this expertise in her new role, McBain will support clients in ChemQuest’s Business Strategy & Transformation, M&A Advisory Services, and Technology Development pillars.
During her extensive 35-year career, McBain has served as a positive change agent in innovation management, developing and commercializing numerous products in a variety of applications and end-use sectors. In addition, she has worked on both buy- and sell-side merger and acquisition analysis initiatives. She has held numerous roles of increasing responsibility with organizations such as ICI-Glidden and OMNOVA Solutions. Most recently, she served as vice president of Innovations Functional Solutions for Synthomer PLC.

The recipient of numerous technical innovation and development awards, McBain holds four U.S. patents, has given presentations at many industry events, and served as a lecturer at Kent State University and the University of Eastern Michigan. She serves as a senior fellow at the University of Akron Research Foundation and is active in numerous professional organizations, including the American Chemical Society, the Federated Coatings Society Cleveland, the American Coatings Association, and the Greater Akron Polymer Industry Advisory Council.
McBain received a B.S. in chemistry from the University of Wisconsin at Eau Claire, an M.S. in organic chemistry from the University of Kansas, and a Ph.D. in polymer science from the University of Akron. In addition, she is a certified six sigma black belt.
