PPG announced the completion of a Colorful Communities® project at Mindsteps, a training center for children and young people with disabilities in Herlev, Denmark. The project brought together 25 PPG volunteers who spent two days renovating the facility along with Mindsteps users.

For the project, PPG supplied 40 gallons (150 liters) of SIGMA® Resist paint by PPG, a washable and hard-wearing wall and ceiling paint. In addition, the company donated more than $28,000 (190,000 Danish crowns) to establish a new learning space and purchase computers to be used at the center’s school. A workshop was also organized in collaboration with the artist Nigel Thomas to provide designs for the walls of the center.

“Our users are proud to come to a place they have helped to renovate and make their mark,” said Merete Schousboe, board member at Mindsteps. “They have been seen and heard by PPG and that recognition is the most important thing they can get. We are completely blown away by the project.”

“PPG is committed to giving back to the local community, and at Mindsteps our employees could help make a difference for an organization that needs improvement but lacks the resources,” said Torben Beck, PPG general manager, Denmark and Germany, Architectural Coatings. “The project allows them an opportunity to beautify which they otherwise would not have had. It's great to put on your work clothes and go and paint together with the site’s users.”

The Colorful Communities program, PPG’s initiative for supporting communities, aims to protect and beautify the neighborhoods where PPG operates around the world. Through the program, PPG’s committed volunteers contribute their time and PPG paint products to help transform community assets – from painting classrooms, to bringing color to a maternity ward, to redesigning a playground. Since 2015, PPG has completed more than 450 Colorful Communities projects, impacting more than 7.5 million people in 50 countries.

PPG’s global community engagement efforts and the PPG Foundation aim to bring color and brightness to PPG communities around the world. The company has invested $13.3 million in 2021, supporting hundreds of organizations across more than 40 countries. By investing in educational opportunities, we help grow today’s skilled workforce and develop tomorrow’s innovators in fields related to coatings and manufacturing. Plus, we empower PPG employees to multiply their impact for causes that are important to them by supporting their volunteer efforts and charitable giving.
