PPG has completed a Colorful Communities® project in Klingenberg am Main, Germany, that involved revitalizing an underpass leading to Klingenberg’s middle school, and renovating the school yard. The project brought together more than 90 PPG volunteers, who spent three days – and a total of 1,900 hours – beautifying the underpass and the school yard at the Dr. Konrad Middle school. PPG says this project benefits more than 100 students at the school, as well as members of the public who use the underpass.
PPG provided funding of $57,500 (€54,500) for the project, including more than 64 gallons (290 liters) of its Sigma Coatings™ house paint and Sigma Coatings Indurin paint. Volunteers painted the walls and the floor of the underpass with an underwater world mural, designed in cooperation with a local artists’ group. They also painted concrete blocks in the school yard for students to sit on, using colors from PPG’s The Voice of Color® palette.
“It was a great project of PPG Hemmelrath that brought people together, and beautified a major part of our school,” said Ralf Reichwein, mayor of Klingenberg. “I would like to thank the company for the good cooperation with our town. It was a great experience.”
“We had a great team to make this project happen within three days and I am proud of the amazing result we have created together. It was a fantastic experience to see the hidden talents of colleagues go to the surface. We had a lot of fun during these three days of teamwork,” said Carolin Volk, PPG executive assistant, who was one of the project leaders.
The Colorful Communities program, PPG’s initiative for supporting communities, aims to protect and beautify the neighborhoods where PPG operates around the world – such as Klingenberg, where PPG has an automotive coatings manufacturing facility. Through the Colorful Communities program, PPG’s volunteers contribute their time and PPG paint products to help transform community assets. Since 2015, PPG has completed more than 400 Colorful Communities projects, impacting more than 7.4 million people in 42 countries.
