South Africa-based Harlequin Paints brand has launched a new antimicrobial clear coating, named STERISEAL™, that features SteriTouch® technology. The company reports that it is the first coating in South Africa to incorporate antimicrobial technology from SteriTouch, a technology from Radical Materials that is proven 99.99% effective against tested surface bacteria. Designed with versatility in mind, STERISEAL can be applied to a diverse range of finishes including furniture, walls, school desks, hotels, restaurants and many other applications where a hygienic surface is required. The coating can be applied like any other commercially available paint, thus making it an option for both DIY home decorators and professional contractors.

In order to meet increased demand for hygienic coating solutions within the South African market, STERISEAL utilizes silver-ion technology supplied by Radical Materials to ensure around-the-clock protection against bacteria, mold, mildew and fungi. Additionally, the coating provides excellent resistance to potential damage caused by heat, water, scratches and abrasion. The active ingredient within STERISEAL has also been extensively tested to prove its resilience against the harshest cleaning chemicals including bleach and MEK (methyl ethyl ketone).

Tested by independent UK laboratories using the ISO 22196 method, STERISEAL has been confirmed to reduce up to 99.99% of tested surface bacteria, including E.coli and Staphylococcus aureus.
