HORGEN, Switzerland — Dow has received a 2021 FutureEdge 50 award for its Predictive Intelligence capability, Dow Polyurethanes’ flagship digitalization initiative. The FutureEdge 50 awards annually recognize 50 organizations pushing the edge of innovation with breakthrough technologies to advance their business for the future.

The Predictive Intelligence capability, created in collaboration with Microsoft, was recognized for its cutting-edge innovation in transforming the polyurethane product development process. Predictive Intelligence combines Dow’s material science expertise with Microsoft’s artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning experience to reimagine R&D, speeding up the 2–3 month long product development process for polyurethane formulations by 200,000x, reducing the discovery phase to just 30 seconds.

“We’re very proud to receive this prestigious award from FutureEdge 50 for our Predictive Intelligence capability. It’s a recognition of the one-of-a-kind digital transformation approach we’ve taken to become a more customer centric, inclusive and responsive organization,” said Alan Robinson, North America Commercial Vice President at Dow Polyurethanes.

“We’re challenging the way we work and disrupting our own end-to-end innovation cycle with the customer experience in mind to accelerate customers and markets innovation with a better use of science and digital tools to solve tomorrow’s world challenges. This is an important milestone within Dow’s broader digitalization vision, with more initiatives to be unveiled soon.”

This capability not only enables faster product development of differentiated solutions, but its development also marks a new phase in Dow’s digitalization journey. The capability was developed through adopting a new way of working across disciplines, functions and geographies by embracing an agile mindset that enables rapid innovation.
